Sidney Katherine Powell is an American attorney, former federal prosecutor, and an author. She is known for her book Licensed to Lie: Exposing Corruption in the Department of Justice. She briefly served as the Assistant United States Attorney in three judicial districts under 9 United States Attorneys from both political parties. She was the youngest attorney when she begun working as an assistant US attorney.
Powell began her legal career as one of the youngest federal prosecutors in the United States. During her tenure, she prosecuted Jimmy Chagra. She withdrew from working as a prosecutor in 1988 and later opened her own firm in 1993. Sydney is currently representing Michael Flynn, a former aide to President Donald Trump convicted during the special counsel’s investigation into Russian election interference. He had pleaded guilty in 2017 to lying to the FBI about contacts with Russia’s ambassador to the US. On 7th May 2020, the charges were later dropped.
